Resource Description
In reading a book, I sometimes scan the prologue and go to the first chapter systematic to get to the meat. Notwithstandin, I didn't do it this time, and I'm gladiola I didn't because Kyle Idleman, the instruction pastor of Southeastern Christian Church service in Louisville, KY, the fifth largest church in U.S.A, recounts an interesting story in the prologue. One unit of time, he was sitting alone in Southeastern's huge empty church service sanctuary, searching for just the right sermon to preach the coming Su – Easter Sunday. He knows full well that at that place will be approximately 30,000 hoi polloi in attendance, including some who lonesome come through on Christmas and Easter. His temptation is to preach a sermon that they leave "enjoy" and will promote them seed back.
Total commitment
Nevertheless, reflecting on Jesus' sermons to the multitudes, Idleman remembers that Jesus didn't mince row. He always called for total commitment. This was overmuch for some of His listeners. Many of them left Him. At the close of John chapter 6, after around doughy pedagogy, we read, "From this time numerous of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him." Idleman adds, "I was smitten by the fact that Jesus didn't furrow after them. He doesn't soften his message to make it more appealing. Helium doesn't send his disciples chasing after them with a creative handout inviting them to come back for 'build your own sundae' ice cream social. He seems satisfactory with the fact that his popularity has plummeted."
No Fans
Idleman's theme is that Jesus doesn't want fans, i.e., enthusiastic admirers. Instead, He wants committed followers, ones who are willing to forfeit for Him – wherever, whenever, and whatever. He develops this stem past unpacking Jesus' didactics on discipleship and including a amoun of real-life stories of pledged Christ-followers at Southeastern Christian Church.
This al-Qur'an is designed for two groups of the great unwashe:
(1) those who see themselves as "good Christians" but take a challenge (don't we all!?), and (2) those World Health Organization don't profess to comprise believers. The latter would not permissive waste their money on a Christian Bible like this, but a believer might buy it for them, and for good intellect – this Book could change their life!
Not a Fan is effective, but not hard reading. In fact, it's an enjoyable and interesting read. Atomic number 3 bestselling Christian author Lee Strobel wrote, "Get around your highlighter and let Kyle take you back to the effect of Christianity. You English hawthorn ne'er enjoy being challenged more by reading this clear, compelling, and winsome book!"
Why did I read this book?
Because two of my church service friends who are committed following of Jesus Christ recommended it with these words, "Information technology's very convicting." I preceptor't know about you, just the older I go, the softer I can become. And that's something that I don't comparable in myself. I lack the Holy Ghost to jailbird me so I ass be altogether that Good Shepherd would deprivation me to be for the remaining days of my life.
